This obelisk shaped desk thermometer stands 172 mm (6.75 inches) high and the stepped plinth base measures 63 mm (2.5 inches) square. It is veneered with tortoiseshell, and the thermometer sits on a graduated bone backing. It has lost a very small area of tortoiseshell from the corner of the plinth to the rear, and the thermometer, which still reacts to temperature changes, appears to have lost the top of the tube.
