Minton majolica Secessionist vase number 41
This Minton Secessionist ware vase stands 176 mm (7 inches) high, and has a diameter at the base of 90 mm (3.5 inches). The naming of the Secessionist range was a nod to the Viennese Secession movement that had influenced contemporary design trends of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The design of this vase is illustrated in the Minton Seccessionist catalogue of 1902 as pattern 3551 on vase shape number 41. Designed by John Wadsworth and Leon Solon, Minton Secessionist ware was Minton's tube lined Art Nouveau range of the period from 1902 until about 1914. The cells outlined with the tube lining were filled with majolica glazes and then fired which produced individual variations to each piece. This vase is in very good condition apart from from some very fine crazing, with the colours remaining vibrant. There is a date mark on the base, under the glaze, but it is illegible. C1902-10.
