Large French Art Deco figure of woman with a deer

This large French Art Deco figure in earthenware, features a woman in a long flowing gown, with a deer to her right hand and a large wicker work basket to her left. The whole piece is glazed in a bottle green glaze that shows a slight iridescence. The deer, or fawn, was a very popular motif in Art Deco design. The front of the plinth is indistinctly impressed with the name "Polbert", who I take to be the French sculptor Pierre Polbert, and the rear is impressed with "985 France". It stands 370 mm (14.5 inches) high, measures 535 mm (21 inches) in width and is 175 mm (7 inches) in depth. There are four small chips to the plinth, the largest of which measures 8mm x 5 mm (3/8ths x 1/4 of an inch) and has been coloured green at some stage. The green coloured one is at the front and is seen in the photo showing the sculptor's mark. The remainder are at the sides and the rear. It does look quite impressive on a mantlepiece, but equally could be displayed on a sideboard or hall table. It would date from the late 1920's
