Genuine Boer War Era Safari / Campaign Chair
This is the real deal. These early military officers demountable Officers Campaign Chairs were made to be taken ‘On Campaign’ and assembled in the officers under canvass HQ. These chairs were the inspiration for the Mid Century Safari Chairs that were popular with Danish, European and Australian designers. This example was made with canvas covers and leather arm straps.
The brand new covers in the pictures were commissioned from a master saddle maker who has fashioned them from natural undyed leather which has been conditioned with mink oil saddle making conditioner! The leather will age and darken to a rich Tan colour. The timber frame is either mahogany or hickory and is superb having been freshly oiled and waxed. Also included for provenance are the original canvas covers and leather arm straps.
