FRATELLI FANCIULLACCI SGRAFFITO HORSE BOWL, MONTELUPO ITALY

Italy

c. 1960s

A striking mid-century ceramic bowl by Fratelli Fanciullacci, produced in Montelupo, Italy. The wide rim is decorated with stylised horse heads rendered in the traditional sgraffito technique, where layers of coloured slip are carved away to reveal contrasting tones beneath.

Rich brown glaze frames the lively motif of red, ivory and turquoise, giving the piece both depth and graphic presences. Raised on a low pedestal foot, the bowl has a sculptural profile that works beautifully as a centrepiece or decorative object.

A wonderful example of the expressive studio ceramics produced by the Fanciullacci workshop during the mid-20th century.

Marked to the underside Italy with model number.
