Antique teak Indonesian storage chest (Grobog)
Beautiful antique Indonesian solid teak rice chest, or "grobog", on wheels. Dates from second half 19th Century.
Crafted from large interlocking teak wood planks, with dovetail joints, original cast iron handles and hinges and simple embellishments in Indonesian craftsmanship. Set on large teak wheels discretely hidden behind carved panels. The chest opens to two small candle boxes/compartments and a large compartment excellent for storage.
This chest lends itself to a number of uses including as a side board due to height, with room for hidden storage.
Condition: This piece has been sympathetically restored by the original seller. It is in solid structural condition but is rustic and retains cosmetic marks consistent with age and use. This includes an old longish dark indent on one side (smoothed and varnished) and small chip at front bottom right that could be repaired if desired (see photos). The wheels are made of rustic teak and one is not completely round and needs to be turned into place for chest to stand fully level. Please enquire about exact dimensions.
